Winter might be here...ugh

Winter might be upon us...which makes me sad. Fall harvest has not even begun, and the first snow of the year is here.

Time to play catch up

Almost Spring Break

At last it is almost time for spring break.

The kids I work with at school are ready and so am I. Not only has this winter been busy, but lots of sickness around the schools. I get germs from
Dighton and the Sophie gets germs from Scott. So someone is normally sick in our house. Hopefully over spring break it will give us all some rest and relaxation we so desperately need.

For spring break Sophia and I are flying back to
STL to visit Gigi and papa. This will be Sophie's first time flying...and moms first time flying with a baby, so we will see how it goes. Sophie is about the age that she gets to juice, so the doctor recommended that during the flight I put some in a bottle to help distract her from the pressure in her ears. I can't believe that she is already 6 months old. At times it seems that this stage has lasted forever, but I just think I feel that way because of the situation our family is in. Meaning that it is hard for me living so far away from my family. Sometimes I just wish that I could go hang out with my family...especiallyon the weekends. That is when I miss the family get-to-gethers the most. Hopefully things will change and we will be able to move closer to my family. But having these feelings of isolation also makes me truly appreciate Sophia and I am glad that the Lord as a way with unanswered prayers.

Back to spring break, Sophia and I are starting off the break visiting Abby in Columbia. It is Sigma's family weekend, and we are looking forward to a girls weekend. Plus I love
Columbia and eating really good food. I am hoping that during our time in STL we will get to run into some old friends, it is always nice to go home, and have good conversation with great people. Well I will keep you updated and hopefully I will get around to uploading pictures.

Thanks for visiting

Time to catch up

Well it has been a while since I have updated...thanks to Abby for reminding me. This past weekend we had lots of family and friends in town for Sophia's baptism. Not only did Sophie get baptised but Essy my uncle Tim's baby, joined in. What a special day it was for all who were involved. My sister, Abby and my best friend from high school Laura, were the godmothers. Deanna my best friend from grad school also made the long journey to celebrate this special occasion with us. After the ceremony I had 19 people over to our house!!! This is the first time that I have had this many visitors, and what a great time. Laura, Deanna, Abby and myself spent the morning getting everything ready. We even preparedchutney. Let me guess you are asking yourself what chutney is, well it is a mix between a relish and salsa. Our chutney was a peach and ginger chutney. We also had sandwiches, fruit, pasta salad, and a great cake. In fact I had so much cake left over I brought some to school for the other teachers to enjoy. Friends and family all left on Monday morning...it was a sad day at the hoeme household. Gus, Sophia, and mom stood at the window with tears in our eyes waving goodbye. I will hold these cherish memories close to my heart forever. Thanks to all that helped make our weekend special.

Today we got up to a sick little girl. Sophia is coughing and has a rash all over her body. Joshua made his first trip to the pediatrician. Sure enough Sophie has and ear infection. So we got some antibiotics and will see how she feels in a couple of days. Other than that I did get a new camera as an early birthday present, so later on tonight I will have to upload some pictures for you to enjoy. Hopefully having it in hand will help me to be better about posting and keeping you all up-to-date with the happenings of the hoeme household.

It is about time

Well I think that it is about time to update my blog, and this is the first time in almost three weeks that I have had a chance to sit down and write a little something. Well Sophia Rose Hoeme arrived on Monday September 8, 2008 at 7:19 pm. In fact it was the day right after my first blog...kinda crazy !!! It was a long delivery. I started with contractions about 3 am on Sunday night, and since I wasn't sure what exactly they were, so I called mom and asked her what she thought. Good old Mary said that she was almost sure that Sophia was ready to make her appearance. By 4 am I thought that it was a good idea to wake Joshua up and have him start timing the contractions. The were about 8 minutes apart. I need to take a bath before the big event, but that made things go way too fast. My contractions went from 8 minutes apart to 2 minutes apart. So we were off to Scott Community Hospital, and checked into my room by 7. When I got to the hospital I was already dilated to a 3. This made me proud, the entire time before her delivery I was worried about the amount of pain that I would be in. And for anyone who knows me I am not good with pain. But to tell you the truth it wasn't that bad, I would say almost tolerable. As the morning continued I progressed and the time came to get an epidurral . After that I felt like I was on cloud nine. By 3 pm I was complete and ready to start pushing. I pushed for about 2 hours and then Spohia decided that she wasn't going to come natural, so we were off to the operating room. Finally at 7:19 Sophia Rose was born. At first we thought that Sophia and Joshua were going to make a trip to Wichita because Sophia's respiration rate were too high, but after she had spent some time with mom she started to calm down.

Sophia and I spent 4 days in the hospital. Not only did mom need some time to recover from the labor, but Sophia also had some jaundice and needed to spend time in the tanning bed. We had lots of visitors while we were in the hospital, but it was sure nice to get home on Thursday evening. Grandma and Grandpa Herzog finally arrived on Thursday afternoon to help get us settled in at home.

Today might be the day

So here it is the long awaited blog that I have been promising so many family and friends. Well today is the first of many uncomfortable days to come. Joshua and I visited the doctor libby on Thursday and she said I was still at a 1, so we made an appointment for Monday just to check and see the status of things. Friday morning I woke up with strep throat, no fun. So my weekend has been full of resting and nesting. That is right I am trying to get the house together, but when is your house really ready for a baby? All the laundry is done, and things are clean, but I am not sure that mentally we are ready for what is awaiting us, but lets just get started already.

On a side note the highlight of my weekend was watching the CATS play, and dominate Montana State. Chaston, Joshua's younger brother did get to go to the game and hang out on the sidelines and in the locker room. Hopefully he will get a chance to show them his mad football skills. We are hoping that we will get to head to manhattan for one game this season, but we still can bleed purple even in the "armpit" of kansas.
